The South Kerry Juvenile Hurling Board's inaugural Hurling Awards Night was held on Friday last in the Killarney Plaza Hotel. This event was kindly sponsored by the O'Donoghue-Ring Hotels and it was a very special event for all concerned. It was very

well attended by coaches, parents and juveniles from all clubs in the region.

Guests of honour were Paudie Butler, National Hurling Director, and the out-going South Kerry Hurling Administrator, John Griffin. These two guests gave inspiring talks on hurling and it's special place in our culture. They are both well placed to offer advice to our juveniles and they did not fail. Paudie stated that there are many clubs being formed internationally and it is right

that there should be a keen interest

in our gaelic games at home. He also informed us that juvenile participation in hurling in South Kerry is now at an all time high and that it is an integral part of the community. This is mainly due to the tremendous work and dedication to the cause shown by John Griffin over the last three years. John thanked all clubs for their assistance during his term of office in South Kerry and he hopes that he may be able to help out in the future whenever possible. We wish them both well in their respective futures.

We were also joined by Patrick O'Sullivan, Vice-Chairman of the County Board, Tadgh O'Donoghue, Chairman of the South Kerry Senior Board and Seanie O'Shea, Kerry Senior Hurling Selector and incoming Minor Hurling Manager.

There were many presentations of medals by our guests during the event to our juvenile hurlers;

U14 Division 1 County League Champions: Dr. Crokes

U11 South Kerry Champions: Kilgarvan

Dr. Bill Mangan U10 Tournament Cup: Dr. Crokes

Dr. Bill Mangan U10 Tournament Shield: Rathmore

Denis Nagle U10 Ground Hurling Tournament: Dr. Crokes

There were also presentations to our juveniles who represented Kerry at various age

groups in 2011;

U16 Kerry Hurling Team 2011:

The Man of the Match Award for the U14 County Hurling Final was presented to Michael Owen Buckley.

Our new website - www.southkerryhurling.com - was also launched on the night and this looks like a winner already. Thanks to Michael O'Keeffe for all his work on this.

Finally, two special presentations were made to Paudie Butler and John Griffin in appreciation of their hard work over the years.

This was a great night for South Kerry Hurling and the future looks good. After the proceedings ended, we had some light refreshments and many memories were shared and plans hatched for the future.
